Government of India Ministry of health and Family Welfare Influenza A [H1N1] 6 August 2009

As on 31st July 2009 World health Organization has reported 162380 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A/H1N1 and 1154 deaths.

Health screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 22 International airports. 44,412 passengers have been screened on 5.8.2009 of which 32,498 passengers were from affected countries. 224 doctors and 151 paramedics are manning 81 counters at these airports. A cumulative total of 43,88,039 passengers have been screened.

Nineteen laboratory confirmed cases have been reported today: Delhi (11) and Pune (8)

Out of the eleven cases in Delhi, ten cases [7/M, 8/M, 8/M, 11/F, 13/M, 14/M, 18/F, 26/M,26/F and 30/M] are contact cases of previously reported positive cases and have no travel history. The eleventh case is a 25 year old male who travelled from Chicago by American Airlines flight AA 292 reaching Delhi on 28th July. He reported with symptoms at the identified health facility on 5th August 2009.

Out of the eight cases in Pune, seven [8/F, 10/F, 11/F, 12/M, 13/M, 14/F, 35/M] are contact cases of previously reported positive cases and have no travel history. The eighth case is 45 year old female who travelled from Frankfurt by Lufthansa Flight LH 756 reaching Mumbai on 31st July 2009. He reported with symptoms to the identified health facility on 3rd August.


2772 persons have been tested so far out of which 615 are positive for Influenza A H1N1 [Swine]. 615 out of the 2772 persons have been identified through entry screening 576 through contact tracing and the rest were self reported.

Of the 615 positive cases, 487 have been discharged. One case has died. Rest of them remain admitted to the identified health facility.

The situation is being monitored.
